Procedures and Treatments
- All appointments are booked for one hour.
- Of this, usually 40-45 minutes will be hands-on treatment.
- All children under 16 must legally be accompanied by an adult.
- The initial consultation begins with your case history. Anything you disclose will be confidential to me. This is followed by a clinical assessment, after which I will discuss my findings, initial diagnosis and a possible treatment plan.
- If you consent to being treated by me, the first treatment will usually be given during the first appointment, provided it is safe and appropriate.
- Craniosacral treatment most frequently involves lying on your back on the treatment couch; there is no need to remove any clothing except shoes. When this position is difficult, side-lying, or sitting positions can be used.
- Massage, soft-tissue and manipulative treatments may involve lying on your back, on your front and in side-lying positions, within the same treatment. When it is important to work with skin contact, some clothing will need to be removed.
- Children and babies do not undress.
- The number of sessions needed varies depending on your age, medical history, and the severity and length of standing of your condition.
- 1-3 treatments are enough in most acute, or simple, cases.
- Serious and chronic conditions may require more regular treatment and over several months, 5-8 sessions is not unusual.
- Once you have improved, maintenance treatment is beneficial and recommended. This varies from every 2-4 months, to once a year.
- You will be reassessed on each visit.
- My aim is to get some improvement within 3 treatments; in chronic and difficult conditions, I extend this to 5. I am unlikely to continue beyond 5 sessions if no improvement has occurred
- It is not unusual to get some reaction from treatment, such as an increase in soreness. If this occurs, it normally subsides within 48 hours.
- If any aggravation lasts longer than 48 hours, if your condition worsens unexpectedly, or, should you choose to discontinue treatment with me for any reason, it is very important that you telephone me to discuss your concerns. It may well be that only reassurance is needed, or, that the follow-up treatment needs to be brought forward.
